Firmware compatibility¶

MuraLink is released together with the firmware and carries the same version scheme. One rule
makes the combinations work: MuraLink makes no version check, it tries each command and treats a
command that draws no answer three times in a row (while ping still answers) as not implemented
on this connection. The value then reads n/a, the control is greyed with the tooltip Not
supported by the connected firmware, and the command is not sent again until the next connection
or a manual refresh. Every page keeps working around the gaps.
Which MuraLink for which firmware¶
Use the MuraLink of the firmware release or a newer one. MuraLink 26.10.1 works with
every firmware from 26.6.2 on; the older the firmware, the more reads n/a:
| Firmware | What MuraLink 26.10.1 cannot show or do |
|---|---|
| 26.10.1 | Nothing: every page is live |
| 26.8.0 | The start-up diagnostics (reset cause, bootloader information, settings-memory state, kernel figures); the TWS management (the TWS page is greyed, the fallback role, the peer memory); the board type and everything of PCB 1.4; the autosave indicator and Reset settings; the update bundle: the first update is arranged with support |
| 26.7.0 | As 26.8.0, and the input enable switches, the programmer detection, the automatic power-down settings and its countdown |
| 26.6.2 | As 26.7.0, and the level meter, the fault decoding and the per-stage reset controls, the board identity, the IPAT write. Settings are kept in flash only: Device > Status offers Save to flash instead of the autosave line |
A firmware newer than MuraLink works too, with its new features invisible, with one exception: MuraLink 26.8.0 and older poll a DSP command that 26.10.1 removed, so their DSP page stops updating, and they have no firmware update page. With firmware 26.10.1 use MuraLink 26.10.1 or newer.
Boards¶
MuraLink reads the board type on connect (SYS:BOARD:TYPE?). On a board the firmware does not
support it shows a banner, keeps the identification and the firmware update available and limits
its polling to the reduced command set of the safe state.
On PCB 1.3 the controls of PCB 1.4 features (the 12 V trigger, the USB-C power sense, the DSP boot
memory page) are greyed with the tooltip Not available on this board.
Firmware updates¶
The firmware update page installs an update bundle on a module that runs 26.10.1 or newer, and on a module that waits in update mode without a firmware. A PCB 1.3 module on 26.8.0 or older cannot take an update bundle by itself; MuraLink names that case as Secure bootloader missing, and the first update is arranged with support.
Settings persistence¶
How a module keeps its settings depends on its firmware, and MuraLink shows it on Device > Status: Saved automatically from 26.7.0 on (the autosave), with the footer indicator and Reset settings from 26.10.1 on; on 26.6.2 Save to flash writes the volumes, the input and the Bluetooth role to the flash record, and the other settings return to their defaults at every start of such a unit.
