Quick start

JP150PCB 1.3PCB 1.4Jan PřibyslavskýThis page does not apply to the product or PCB revision chosen in the header.

How to get started with your first DSP design in SigmaStudio 4.7 on the JP150. The module ships factory-programmed with the starter project shown here, and the same procedure restores the DSP to its factory state.

Prerequisites

  • SigmaStudio 4.7 from Analog Devices, with its USBi driver (included in the installation; the programmer appears in Device Manager as Analog Devices USBi).
  • The JP150 starter project (Downloads).
  • A JP150 module with its power supply, and a USBi programmer.

Hardware setup

  1. Boot source. For a download to the running DSP no change is needed. To write the boot memory afterwards, see Writing the boot memory: PCB 1.3 sets DIP switch 1 OFF, PCB 1.4 switches the self boot off over the control interface (DSP:SELFBOOT with 0; MuraLink shows the setting read-only).
  2. Connect the programmer to the I2C-DSP connector (pinout). The module detects it and stands down on that bus (programmer coexistence).

Opening and downloading the starter project

  1. File, Open, JP150_DSP_basic_passthrough_ASRC.dspproj.
  2. In the Hardware Configuration tab check that the USB block is green: the USBi is connected.
  3. Click Link Compile Download. The status bar reads "Active: Downloaded", and audio applied to the selected input plays.

Editing the starter project

The main schematic contains the hierarchy boards INPUTS_PROCESSING, AMP0_OUT, AMP1_OUT and I2S_OUT. They abstract the hardware-specific details of the inputs, outputs and sample-rate converters; do not edit them, or the design may stop working with the JP150 firmware. Add your own processing in the marked area of the main schematic. See The starter project.

Writing the design into the boot memory

Follow Writing the boot memory for your board revision, then power-cycle and check that the DSP LED flashes and audio plays.

Troubleshooting

Symptom What to check
The USB block does not turn green The USB cable; the USBi driver (Device Manager, Analog Devices USBi).
A communication error during the download Power the module off, disconnect the USBi from the module and the PC, reconnect the USBi to the PC, power on, reconnect the USBi to the module, download again.
After a session the module no longer reacts to input or power changes (PCB 1.4) Reset or power-cycle the module (known issue KI-10).
The program does not boot after writing The self boot setting (DIP switch 1 on PCB 1.3; on PCB 1.4 the Self boot tile on MuraLink's DSP > Status, or DSP:SELFBOOT?); the memory settings of the write, in particular the chip-erase time on PCB 1.4; erase, write again, power cycle. MuraLink's DSP > Status (Boot, Core), or DSP:BOOT? and DSP:CORE:STATUS?, tell whether the program loaded.
